Kim Kardashian! Google released its annual Zeitgeist report this morning, which reveals the most popular and fastest-rising search terms of the year. Among queries for Rebecca Black's "Friday" (more than 167 million YouTube views!) and the release of Apple's iPad 2 (more searched than even "iPhone"), two celebrity weddings went head to head in 2011, both claiming rights to "Wedding of the Year" and both capturing the world's attention with their sisters in white.

But, considering that Kim Kardashian's marriage to Kris Humphries lasted an infamous 72 days before she filed for divorce, it's not too surprising that the reality star beat out England's future queen. The numbers were crunched to see how Kate and Kim fared on Brides.com—and here's what was found:

I COULD HAVE DANCED ALL NIGHT: OR...THE MOST COMFORTABLE BRIDAL SHOES EVER!

With trendy wedding photos of beautiful bridal shoes flooding the wedding blogs, a girl might almost be tempted to throw caution to the wind and sacrifice comfort for that one, coveted shoe shot...after all we gals can't expect to have a bridal shoe that's gorgeous AND comfortable - right?

Wrong!

Who made that rule anyway...men? Let them try standing on their feet all day, walking up and down and all around a wedding venue to capture just the right light for the perfect wedding photos, walking the aisle, then on to more photo sessions (never seated, of course), the receiving line that goes on forever, the cake cutting, more photos, then dancing all night in 3" heels!

The White Room has a great friend who has come up with a brilliant solution. Her name Angela Neuran - and she's one woman who KNOWS what it means to "dance all night." Angela is a professional choreographer and ballroom dancer who's spent enough hours in heels to know the value of perfectly fitted shoes. And somewhere along the way she realized that brides have among the most neglected feet of all!

As someone who's watched Dancing With The Stars and scratched her head wondering how those dancers jump around in high heeled shoes sporting big smiles on their faces,

(though, I admit, I pretty much concluded those smiles were faked for the cameras)

I can honestly say that these shoes have helped me understand how they do it.

So, hang a pair of uncomfortable "glam" shoes on a doorknob for the photographer if you must, but treat your feet to the most comfy wedding shoes you can, and enjoy your wedding day without a single blister. Your feet will thank you, and your groom will be astonished when you sing, "I could have danced all night!"

The White Room is working hard on making this year's bridal show Elegant Weddings at the Wynfrey our best ever, and it occured to me...why should we have all the fun?

So, it's time we shared a bit more of what's in store at this year's bridal show...

For starters, we've got local television celebrity, Jeh Jeh Pruitt, heading the line-up as our 2012 emcee!

FOX6 Sports Anchor/Reporter Jeh Jeh Pruit can be seen each weekday morning, reporting on anything from the latest exercise craze to breaking news coverage. You'll also catch him at the sports anchor desk each day on FOX6 News at Noon and with the FOX6 Sports Team on FOX6 Sideline.

He also gives back to the community by working with children, helping out with the FOX6 School Clean-up and FOX6 Gifts for Kids. Jeh Jeh is also involved with the Kidney Foundation, inspiring others to help raise money in the fight against kidney disease.

If you've never seen Jeh Jeh live or met him in person, you're in for a treat! He's full of life and a real charmer with his 1000 watt smile!

Next, we've got Rhythm N' Motion to get things kicked into high gear. They'll start off with an exhibition, performing specially choreographed "first dances," then they'll show us some of those special (and fun) dance moves for the wedding party that have gone viral on You Tube these days.

TJ and Wendy Zito, the creators of Rhythm N' Motion in Birmingham, are incredibly talented choreographers who have developed a special niche teaching "first dances." Using a wedding couple's favorite song (or songs), they choreograph a personalized dance routine that suits the couple's personality.

If you've ever seen one of these in person, you'll understand when I say it's truly a gift to the attendants...such fun!

the old adage, An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure is a good place to start.

Our wedding photography friends have figured out that shooting the bulk of wedding photos BEFORE a wedding is the best way to insure that hair, make-up, and dress are at their most pristine. If wedding photos came AFTER the reception, there's no telling what combination of mishaps would show up in the family wedding album, recorded for posterity. Accidents happen, and they love to happen at big events, like weddings. So prepare yourself, and take those photos EARLY!

Second...

remember the Boy Scout mantra:
Be Prepared. Of course you can't think of or prepare yourself for every possible folly, but there are people who make it their job to think of wedding emergencies and have tricks up their sleeves that the averarge human has never considered. We call these superstars, wedding planners.

A great wedding planner makes it her/his business to think of the things you would never think of. The White Room has a great relationship with many wedding planners...so much so, that we'll be featuring their tips and tricks in the future as part of this regular blog series.

So, stay tuned for that!

Third...

Accidents happen, even in the best of circumstances. So if Uncle Raymond gets a bit carried away trying out his lambada moves and slings his glass of burgundy all over your amazing Judd Waddell gown, have no fear, the best solution I can recommend is a great professional cleaner.

Here in Birmingham we recommend Berthon's. So, check around in your area for a professional cleaner who has a track record for excellent service, and then, sometime before your wedding date, arrange to have a friend or family member take your wedding gown soon after the wedding to the professional you've pre-selected for cleaning and proper storage.. That way, any stubborn stains can be more easily removed before they set in, and you can relax on your honeymoon knowing your investment is in good hands.

Be prepared...mentally. Brides are notorious for wanting their wedding day to be problem free. As much as we wedding professionals want to help you achieved that goal, the truth is that no day is without it's bumps. The very best advice I can give any bride is to count it all joy! With debutante and ball season upon us, I thought we might offer some advice on how a wedding gown can be transformed into the perfect, one-of-kind ball gown.

Debutante, Caitlin Baker of Mobile, Alabama found her deb gown at The White Room ... a strapless, floor-length gown by one of our favorite designers, Anne Barge. First, Carolyn fitted Caitlin, and then we got to work outsourcing the ideal, pale pink silk. Once we found the exact color, we sent the silk shantung to Anne Barge who customized her gown. The gown was finished with a custom made crystal belt made by Carolyn Kelley, owner of The White Room.. Voila! So classic, so beautiful!

Besides framing your face, your neckline will show off your jewelry, flatter your bust size and highlight a favorite feature (like toned shoulders or nice cleavage). Here are the three hot looks right now and what you'll love about each.

STRAPLESS NECKLINES:

WHO IT'S GOOD FOR: The strapless neckline works for almost anyone, from plus-size brides to petite girls. The shoulder-baring style can make you look slimmer. This season's bridal runways were aflutter with oversize bows, cascading ruffles and layers upon layers of tulle. We hit the shows in New York last week and have the inside scoop on the newest trends in bridal couture.

GORGEOUS BACKS: Of Course you want to make a grand entrance, but your exit should be just as dramatic. Designers took note: Elaborate back details ruled the season, with intricate draping and amazing low backs.

THE LONG & SHORT: Hemlines were the rage! Short and mid-calf were seen everywhere. Say "I DO" in a conventional floor length gown before switching to a flirtier hemline to dance the night away.

BALLGOWNS: Airy tulle skirts have made a sophisticated comeback. These ethereal gowns look fresh and modern when jewelry is kept to a minimum. For the Full effect, add a matching veil.

BEADED BELTS: Even the most classic gown benefited from an expansive array of crystal belts. Beaded belts add just a touch of glitz and nearly every show featured the accessory. What a perfect way to personalize your gown.

TEXTURE: Even more than last season, interesting textures were seen across the board. Designers showed an array of unusual textures. Some paired organza and feathers for an altogether dramatic effect while others focused on texture as a theme when designing lacy and tulle gowns.

There were cascading ruffles and bows, tiers of pleats, one shoulder gowns, feathers and much more on the New York runway this season. As you can see your chocies are endless.

Proposal: Grant proposed to me in our favorite place...Auburn, AL. Grant told me we were going to dinner with a group of friends, little did I know it would be the best night of my life. We left to go to dinner and Grant said we were going to walk to a friends and ride with him! As we started, walking down the street there was a limo. After begging Grant to not ask the limo driver to take us on a spin, he got me inside the limo! Grant had an artist in Auburn, paint a painting that read: "Kalli, will you marry me?" I saw the painting, turned around and Grant was on one knee! Of course, I said YES! As we pulled away in the limo, the surprise was not over. Grant had planned for our families to be at dinner to help celebrate!!! It was the best night of my life!!!

Proposal: His proposal was a complete surprise to me. I literally had no idea that we would be getting engaged as soon as we did. It was Thanksgiving day, November 26, 2010. The day before, we had Thanksgiving dinner with my side of the family. So on Thanksgiving day, we were over at his family's side. When we were leaving his mom's house, he told me he had somewhere he wanted to take me- somewhere special that he had always wanted to take me to but just never knew when the right time would be. I immediately knew, or hoped I knew, that it was going to be to his dad's grave site. (His dad passed away due to lung cancer when Bubba was 17. He had to have been an incredible man, because everyone that talks about him always starts off the conversation with, "Awww man, Tim- he was such an incredible guy.) Turns out, my instincts were right. It had just started raining, so, with both of us squeezing under his jacket, we walked over to the gravestone and just shared an incredible moment together. Before we headed back to Tuscaloosa, we had to stop by my parent's house to pick up some stuff. When we got close to the driveway, Bubba suddenly said,"Ok, I'm just following orders, but a Christmas present your parents got you came in early, and they wanted to go ahead and give it to you. So I'm going to blindfold you and lead you to the front door." I was quite confused, but for some reason it still didn't dawn on me what was about to happen. My dad and mom came out to get me, walking me into the house, whispering to me how much they loved me and that I would always be 'their little girl'. And that's when it clicked. All I could see were flashing lights, the blindfold came off, and down a long row of candles, flowers, and lights, there stood the most incredible man I know, waiting to ask for my hand in marriage!! It was F L A W L E S S. Everyone that meant so much to us was there, standing around video taping, capturing and taking in everything about that moment with us. I will never ever forget it.

Proposal: We got engaged on New Years Eve, 2010 in Jackson Square in Jackson Hole, WY on a ski trip with 14 of our friends. We had talked about getting married but due to Curt's careful trickery, I did not expect our engagement to happen over the holiday. Curt had recently explained that he wanted to design the ring with me when we were ready and that would take a few months before he would get it. He had his best friend's girlfriend carry it with her on the plane and hid it from me all week. The night of New Years Eve it was freezing cold outside, but everyone insisted that I wear this cute short black dress- knowing what was coming. We stopped in Jackson Square to take pictures and the whole time I was complaining about the cold and how I was slipping on the ice with my heels. We saw a couple get married and another man decided to do a fake proposal right in front of us. The timing wasn't right. So we went and did a little shopping and finally as the fireworks were coming to an end, Curt convinced me to go back outside to see them. We weren't outside for more than 2 mins before the fireworks were done. I turned around to go back inside and Curt called me name. As I turned back around I saw him on his knee in a suit and in the snow and he asked if I would be his wife. I said of course, started crying and everyone came around the corner yelling and clapping. It was just magical. Fireworks, snow, our friends, a beautiful ring and each other. A perfect engagement. He did good.

Cathleen came to see me one day to shop for her wedding gown. After the appointment was over, we both just started chatting about things in general and I learned then what she did for a living and also what her father did for a living. Half jokingly I said something about possibly needing to see someone in her father's field of work - Cardiology. Dr. Elliott is now one of my besties! And we, (Carolyn and I) both just love Cathleen like crazy!

Cathleen works on the junior board of Glenwood, a charity that supports children with autism (a charity that we also support). She had a beautiful traditional ceremony at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, followed by a reception at The Club. Cathleen’s stunning wedding dress came from,The White Room. And one of our favorite photographers, Arden Ward captured these beautiful images. One of our favorite parts of Cathleen’s day was her unique horse ice sculpture- it fit her perfectly knowing her love of horses.

When TODAY called to see if we would participate in their royal wedding makeover we jumped at the chance! Working in the bridal industry, we have a little bit of Royal Wedding fever. Then came the catch: There would be four brides with different visions and tastes who all needed to be sized, fitted and perfected in less than a week! Our made-to-order gowns are usually commissioned anywhere from 8 months to one year before the wedding. So needless to say, we aren’t used to working on such a condensed timeline. With this daunting task looming over us and time ticking away, we got right to work.

When a bride typically walks into our Madison Avenue salon, she’s greeted by an "Amsale Girl" who listens carefully to her wish list for the most special dress she’s ever purchased. The bride is then guided through the process of selecting her perfect gown. Once she's made her choice we assign a battalion of designers, stylists, alterations specialists and pattern makers to perfect every detail for her walk down the aisle.

While we didn’t have the luxury of that process for this endeavor, we did want to give the brides an experience that felt just as special. Conversations via e-mail and phone determined each bride’s preference, style and size so when they finally arrived at our design studio, their perfect gowns would be waiting for them!

After the fittings, a flurry of work began as each dress was tweaked and perfected. I usually have an entire studio of couture seamstresses working on gowns for brides worldwide but today we dropped everything to work on these four dresses! All the chaos was worth it in the end. As you saw, each bride looked absolutely fantastic. We are so happy for them. Congratulations to all four happy couples!

DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE - THE ROYAL BRIDE

It's official now -- Sarah Burton, famed designer of Alexander McQueen got the plum job of designing Kate Middleton's dress, forever ensconced in history.

The dress was made from ivory and white satin gazar, and the bodice and skirt featured hand cut English lace and French Chantilly lace. The train measured almost 9 feet. The lace ap...plique for the bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework (where Carolyn Kelley, Owner of The White Room, took classes). Individual flowers were hand cut from lace and hand engineered onto ivory silk tulle to create the dress' unique design, which incorporates the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock.

The veil was made of layers of soft ivory silk tulle with a trim of hand embroidered flowers. It was held in place by a Cartier "halo" tiara, lent to Kate by Queen Elizabeth II. The tiara was presented to Princess Elizabeth on her 18th birthday. Her Robinson Pelham earrings were a gift from her parents.

An architecture student-turned designer, Judd earned his BFA from Washington University in St. Louis. He had early success heading the bridal division at Carolina Herrera Ltd and then created the “Occasions” bridesmaid line for Jim Hjelm. Judd also designed the bridal gown and wedding party dresses for the 1998 movie, “The Object of My Affection”.

Judd and his partner, Tal Recanti, also a Washington University alum, founded Judd Waddell in March 2000. Judd believes the concept of simplicity is a natural outgrowth of his architectural background. In each phase of his career, he has maintained a basic design philosophy: “notice the woman first, the dress second.”

In the world of wedding dresses, where change sometimes comes slowly, Jenny Lee's career is moving at the speed of light. The young designer opened her first Beverly Hills boutique straight out of Parsons less than 15 years ago, and from there it's been a quick leap to international accolades, a new flagship store in Newport Coast, and a gown with a star turn in last year's Ghost of Girlfriends Past, the romantic comedy featuring Matthew McConaughey (one of my favorites) and Jennifer Garner.

It's not the first time Hollywood has taken notice of Lee's work. She's been an A-list favorite for quite some time, all thanks to her couture-worthy craftsmanship, amazing textiles and styles that give a nod to timeless glamour. "I believe in creating wedding dresses with haute couture fit and fabrics," Lee says. "I make all my own fabrics in Italy, in a factory near Lake Como. The best silks in the world come from here - I'm convinced it's the water quality."

For her 2011 collections, Lee has once again demonstrated her commitment to ultra feminine details, her penchant for romance and her dedication to simplicity and elegance (classic slim silhouettes with dramatic details). "I think a lot of brides grow up dreaming of a ball-gown wedding dress, but when they try one on, they don't always look the best. These days, most women prefer to keep things really, really simple and glamorous."

At the end of the day, Lee believes that one, and only one, question matters when it comes down to your dress: Does the bride look great in it and does she feel her best? The most beautiful brides choose dresses that accent their best body features.

We went to NYC to visit with our designers and see their new 2011 collections. We are thrilled with their new designs, and can not wait for them to arrive in our shop! We saw a lot of full skirts and even the mermaid styles that hug the hips had exaggerated flounce skirts. Many of the new gowns are done in soft fabrics such as netting and organza, which is great for our Southern Birmingham brides. Using those fabrics keeps the gowns lightweight, making them not so hot and heavy to wear. Textured details were everywhere with floral patterned fabrics and appliqued belts.

New York Bridal Market - Fall 09

Oh my - girls - what wonderful gowns we've seen at market. The only trouble with going to see our designers and picking our gowns for the next season is that we have to wait 2 to 4 months for the gowns to start arriving in our salon. It's always a whirlwind - those few days in New York. We started off our venture seeing the latest from Rivini, then off to Romona Keveza - so Saturday was a pretty easy day. Oh but Sunday and Monday - let's see first it was Christos, Amsale, Anne Barge, Badgley Mischka and then - yes Ulla Maija, then off to see Lea Ann Belter, Paloma Blanca then to Judd Waddell (I'll tell you about this later) and finally Monique Lhuillier. Tuesday was an easy day winding up with Reem Acra and a final appointment back at Ulla Maija. Wow - I'm worn out just thinking about it all!

Now for the good news girls - all of our designers are really trying very, very hard to hold their pricing as low as possible. They know that everyone is watching their overall budget - they are listening to you!!! Here are a few of my fav's!

Again, Judd Waddell - always a favorite! I mentioned earlier that I'd tell you more later - well I was blown away to find that Judd has created a fantastic line of evening wear - our Mothers are going to love this! Here is a sneak peak.
